Short description of the couple
Carol is one of the few people on Earth who is immune to an alien virus who has infected everyone else. This virus makes everyone be sort of just one person –they can all instantly communicate and sort of think the same way. Zosia is chosen to be Carol's chaperone, in part because they expect her to be attracted to her. She's not completely an individual, it's complicated.
