Synopsis for Pretty Little Liars:
It has been one year since Alison, then the queen bee of the bunch, went missing. Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily have gone on with their lives, though they've grown apart. Now in high school, each girl finds herself facing a new set of challenges when anonymous text messages from `A' threaten to expose all of their secrets - both old secrets the girls were sure only Alison knew, and newer secrets developed after Alison's disappearance. Who is `A' and how does he or she know the things he or she knows?
It's not main focus of the show but being 2 out of the 5 leads it's a very important relationship. Emily and Alison's connection is deep and complicated, rooted in years of friendship, romantic tension and pain. Alison started very much queen bee mean girl and though Emily was in her group she was much nicer and shy

Detailed description of the couple (likely to contain spoilers)Alison and Emily (Emison) have been besties since before the show started which is 10th grade. Alison goes missing in the first episode leaving everyone to eventually believe she was murdered. This takes a huge toll on the friend group Emily the most, not so much everyone else in the town bc Ali was very mean and manipulative most were afraid of her and some glad she was gone. We start learning through flashbacks Emily and Alison had romantic moments, but Alison sometimes shut it down saying she only liked boys making Emily feel awful. After a mysterious person who goes by A starts harassing them everything begans to come out. Emily meets a girl named maya who she starts to like in the current timeline and she eventually comes out as lesbian breaking up with her boyfriend. Come season 4, there's a new "A" who began in season 3 (the old one got caught in season 2) Maya died in s2, emily's had a few girlfriends and is with Paige now, Alison shows up alive and this changes everything, em breaks up with paige after a few eps, in season 5 emison grows closer than ever but that doesn't last long. skipping to the final season where they're all young adults Emily and Alison are finally able to admit their feelings for each other (more so alison, bc it's always been obvious how emily felt). The third and final A steals emily's eggs and puts them into alison, they eventually decide to keep the babies and in the finale Alison purposes and they get engaged.
