In the vicinity of the liberated planet of Bajor, the Federation space station Deep Space Nine guards the opening of a stable wormhole to the far side of the galaxy.
Jadzia Dax and Lenara Kahn are Trills, a species in the Star Trek universe who exist as symbionts and a host together, the symbiont moving to a new host once their previous one dies. In a previous host, Dax was married to Kahn, but was killed. In the episode, "Rejoined," Dax meets Kahn again on Deep Space 9, both now in different hosts.

Detailed description of the couple (likely to contain spoilers)Jadzia Dax and Lenara Kahn are Trills, a species in the Star Trek universe who exist as symbionts and a host together, the symbiont moving to a new host once their previous one dies. In a previous host, Dax was married to Kahn, but was killed. In the episode, "Rejoined," Dax meets Kahn again on Deep Space 9 while conducting research on wormholes, both now in different hosts. Despite their returning connection, they try their best to keep their feelings at bay. In Trill society, reconnecting with lovers in a previous life is considered a taboo, which would result in them being exiled from family and friends, and never allowed to move to another host, leading to their next death being their final death. Their love for each other, however, persisted, and they started seeing each other in secret. They went on dates, exchanged gifts, worked closely with one another, and even shared a kiss on screen. Once other Trill members began catching on, pressure fell upon them to disassociate from one another. Dax's friends on the ship were supportive of her, and she was ready to commit to reassociation with Kahn, ready to throw away everything for love, but Kahn was not so willing. The price for her was too high, and their relationship had to end.
